start is the vehicle through which the Arts Development Managers can work together and collaborate on district-wide initiatives. We aim to:

  • maximise participation in the arts on a local level

  • enable collaborative work by building partnerships with relevant agencies and bodies

  • advocate the benefits of the arts and promote local arts activity

  • offer support to community groups, arts organisations and residents who are interested in developing new or existing arts activities

  • develop sustainable practices and identify relevant sources of funding to support activity
  • Current start initiatives include:

  • Inside Stories - a consultation tool that combines the ancient art of storytelling with current day film making techniques

  • The Academy - a programme of creative activities for young people including musical theatre summer schools in four venues based

  • The List live - an online directory of arts provision for Cambridgeshire

  • Freetime - information for young people about arts activities in the area linked to a new sms service
